The Social Work Program is designed to prepare you for an entry-level career in social work. In FSU’s program, accredited by Council of Social Work Education, you will about the overall field of social work, the importance of human relationships, the theoretical foundations of the profession, engagement in policy, advocacy, and quantitative and qualitative research. You will be prepared to undertake generalist practice with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations in non-profit, private, and public settings.

As a graduate of FSU’s Social Work program, you will be prepared to immediately gain employment in the field. You can also go on to pursue your Master of Social Work degree, either in a traditional or advanced standing program. You will also be qualified to sit for your state’s Bachelor of Social Work licensing exam.

What You'll Learn

In the classroom setting, you will draw from psychological and sociological theoretical frameworks and conceptual models in social work practice. You will also learn to demonstrate the foundational knowledge of the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers. Those foundational skills will also assist you in the generalist social work practice of engaging, assessing, and intervening with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations. You will be prepared to evaluate the goals of social policies, in terms of social work’s core values, specifically those pertaining to social justice, the dignity and worth of the person, and the importance of human relationships.
